Happy British Summertime! If you’re staying in Plymouth over the break, you’re in for a treat. The city is packed with events celebrating music, culture, history and food- so get ready for a summer to remember.

PIRATE WEEKEND:  17th - 18th May

Pirates and Plymouth go hand in hand. Sir Francis Drake, once the Queen’s favourite pirate, left a legacy that’s still felt down every cobbled street. Pirate weekend is a celebration of a city steeped in maritime history, with events across The Barbican, Royal William Yard and Sutton Harbour. Performances from sea shanty bands such as The Pirates of St Pirans and Billy Ruffian will set the soundtrack for a weekend of skullduggery, along with thrilling cannon-firing demonstrations and a pirate-themed fun run on Sunday! It's the perfect opportunity to dress up and enjoy a tankard of mead, just like you’re on the high seas.

FLAVOURFEST: 30th May - 1st June

Flavourfest is a foodie’s dream- Plymouth City Centre is transformed over the weekend, with international and local cuisine and demonstrations from some of the best chefs in the southwest. There’s also live music from The Andy Quick Band and The Moon Groove Collective, which are a must-see.

SUMMER SESSIONS: 12th - 15th June

Summer Sessions returns for the second year with huge names like Pendulum, Razorlight and James. The four-day festival is already cementing itself as a must-see event; this year’s lineup includes huge names like Pendulum, James and Razorlight, following in the footsteps of last year’s legendary acts such as Tom Jones, Blondie and Sting. With Plymouth Hoe as the stunning backdrop, it's set to be another unmissable weekend. The festival runs from 4pm to 11pm each day, with plenty of food vendors to keep you fuelled. Tickets aren’t cheap, but for those looking for a bargain, volunteering as event staff is your golden ticket to entry.

British Firework Championships: 13th - 14th August

This year sees the return of six past competition winners lighting up Plymouth Sound with dazzling 10-minute displays to compete for the title of “Champion of Champions”. Beyond the fireworks, the event offers live music, a bustling fairground and awe-inspiring performances from Higher Beings Circus, including fire performances and stilt walkers. Best of all? It’s completely free. For a truly unique view, take to the water on a paddleboard or boat and watch the sky ignite from the sea.

WEST END CARNIVAL: 23rd August

The West End Carnival is a vibrant celebration of everything Plymouth has to offer. The highlight of the day is the parade through the city centre, an explosion of colour, culture and creativity featuring spectacular floats, baby dragons and a whole lot of local pride. Live music, circus performers and free food tasters make this day unmissable. Plus, the event is a fantastic way to support Plymouth’s best independent businesses, with traders from the market and beyond showcasing the best of the city’s creative scene.

With an action-packed summer ahead, there’s something for everyone- whether you’re here for the music, the food or the fireworks. Plymouth is set to deliver another unforgettable summer of celebration.
